What are essential oils?
For thousands of years people have relied on essential oils to infuse their lives with benefits, from enhancing beauty and adding flavor to food to elevating spiritual and religious practices.
Extracted through careful steam distillation, resin tapping, and cold pressing, the purest essential oils are far more potent than the botanical from which they’re derived.

They are volatile liquids that are distilled from plants, trees and flowers.
They are “essential” to the plant because they are the immune system or defense system of the plant.
Distilled from seeds, bark, leaves, stems, roots and rinds of fruits.

To know if you have a "pure" oil - unlike actual oil - pure essential oils will evaporate.

The oxygenated compounds that make up essential oils are:
Alcohols: anti-bacterial, anti-infectious, anti-viral. Stimulating and uplifting.
Esters: Calming, relaxing and balancing. Anti-fungal and anti-spasmatic.
Aldehydes: Responsible for the fragrance of an oil. Calming to emotions.
Ketones: Stimulate cell regeneration, promote formation of tissue, and
liquify mucous.
Phenols (Cleanse cellular receptor sites)
Powerful anti-bacterial, anti-infectious, and anti-septic.
Why using therapeutic grade oils matters...
Not all essential oils are created equally. Some companies may compromise oils by adding synthetics, contaminants, or cheap fillers, or by using unethical production practices for the sake of cost, timeliness or other factors.

When the idea of River of Life, LLC came to me, I didn't know exactly what it looked like, but I knew with the background education I had, that essential oils would be an integral tool in my business and the classes I teach and modalities I use. I had been using oils from several manufacturers in my personal life, but now I was to be responsible for so much more and I wanted to be sure I was using the best when it came to my clients and my products.

I looked at quality from start to finish- not just the oils, but where the plants for them came from and how they were grown and harvested. I looked at third-party testing. I looked at studies on effectiveness. And lastly, I looked at the integrity of the top companies foundations and practices. Then, I had my clear answer.

Young Living guides the process of sourcing products from carefully vetted corporate-owned farms, partner farms, and Seed to Seal-certified suppliers and testing them extensively. They perform exhaustive tests on their products, and if one shows that a product doesn’t meet their standards, they either don’t buy it, or they reject the batch.
